These three individuals are not only strong on their own, together their partnership in and out of the gym proves that becoming a solid unit can strengthen a community. Get to know them. Get to know Laminin.

Lindsay Sport

Lindsay was born and raised in Luverne, Alabama. She graduated with a degree in Recreational Therapy and Psychology from the University of South Alabama in 2008. She then went on to complete a year of graduate work in Psychology. She has studied and is certified under the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) and is a fitness nutrition specialist with NASM.

She opened her own gym in Luverne, in January 2011. After two and a half years of training clients, she moved to Dothan to continue her fitness career working with BBS Fitness Systems. “Here, I could do the one thing I loved: train and help people. I’ve always known from a young age that I wanted to help people. I just never imagined it could be in something I love and enjoy so much!”  

While in Dothan, Lindsay obtained her CF-L1 Certification. She began training more CrossFit® specific clients and assisting in their nutrition planning. She has coached and consulted many 1-on-1 hours, teaching the skill of Olympic lifting and movement patterns. 

Lindsay competed alongside Nick in the team division of the 2015 Reebok CrossFit Atlantic Regional with CrossFit Embrace and in the team division of the 2016 Reebok CrossFit Atlantic Regional with CrossFit Laminin, where they finished 6th overall.

Lindsay has received sponsorships from Savage Barbell, Blonde Bomber Sunnies, and Virus International. Lindsay lives with her adorable Doberman Pincher, Zena.

Nick Plagenhoef

Nick was born in Dothan, Alabama. His love for athletics began at a young age. He played football, baseball and basketball throughout high school.
Outside the gym, Nick is a pilot and has all of his civilian pilot ratings. His main vocation is working full time as a pilot for a private charter company in Birmingham.

Nick competed alongside Lindsay in the team division of the 2015 Reebok CrossFit Atlantic Regional with CrossFit Embrace and in the team division of the 2016 Reebok CrossFit Atlantic Regional with CrossFit Laminin, where they finished 6th overall. Nick has also competed in many triathlons.

He qualified and competed in the 2014 Reebok CrossFit Games Southeast Regional.

He attended Huntingdon College in Montgomery, Alabama his freshman and sophomore years before transferring to Auburn to earn a degree in Aviation Management. He first encountered CrossFit while playing quarterback for Huntingdon and was immediately intrigued with the movements and methodology.

Ben Steever

Ben is originally from Dothan, Alabama. He set a course toward a career in Physical Therapy in 2006 after breaking an ankle playing football and receiving PT. After high school, he attended Auburn University and graduated in 2011 with a Bachelor of Education in Exercise Science. He then attended The University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis and graduated in May 2015 with a Doctorate of Physical Therapy. Ben has worked at EW Motion Therapy since July 2015. His PT emphasis is on sports injuries and rehabilitation. His faith and church are central, while CrossFit training, sports, hunting and fishing are a few of his hobbies.
